Just enough

The pretending that goes into polite conversation is akin to lifting and walking in slow motion each leg into and out of boggy sinking sucking mud that engulfs each step each foot and every word echos its insignificance across the universe.

It has to be admired how everyone makes it look easy. They smile, exchange flimsy offerings and sing a song with expected ups and downs and pleading twittering gift wrap in taking. Surely underneath they are perspiring with the agony of the treacle steps.

If time could be stopped and the face skin scratched away from the muscle and cheeks and teeth and tears we would see the gripping pain of this constant dance of bullshit where humans seek connection and are kept at arms length instead.

We are given such potential and intellect and ability to explore real emotions the ugly the beautiful the sexy the honest and we waste it away on cheap dopamine buried in pre written phrases of safety and familiar with rules for cadence.

“Social Skills” the ability to partner up and walk alongside someone in conversation not too long just long enough not too deep just deep enough not too curious just curious enough not too sharing just sharing enough not too vulgar just cheeky enough not too smart or knowing just witty enough.

Just enough. Just enough. We are wasting away from just enough.
